A three-year pilgrimage, the highest hill on Exmoor (a mountain to me), and what happens when your healing metaphor proves more nuanced than you imagined.
Horses often sleep like this, even though we rarely see it in domesticated horses so it seems unusual to us. They will only do it when they’re part of an established herd where they can fully relax, and there are others to nap standing close to them. They kind of take it in turns to go into this deepest rest state!
In a situation where horses are domesticated but there’s an emphasis on keeping them as naturally as possible - ie. free movement, constant forage, and an established herd - resting or sleeping like this is not unusual at all.
Seeing or being with free and happy horses! There’s nothing so beautiful!! ❤️
Ah, thank you for confirming that, Holly! Much appreciated. xxxx Is there an equivalent promise you have made to yourself that you have either done recently or are still yet to do?
Just read your reply to Carl (the husband) over coffee and we both want to hear more. I am keen to learn more about your connection with horses. Carl is cheerleading your music production too from afar (he’s not on Substack). He prioritised the kids over music for many years. Ours are all but grown now (just 16 years old twins left at home). He’s creating albums with of music in the shed at the bottom of the garden he only shares with me.
Oh, what a treat to see the ponies and well done for managing a 6 hour trek! I'm thrilled to be making (and keeping) many appointments with myself at the moment but the one I haven't done yet is an outdoor swim in a Lakeland tarn; it's scheduled for next week!
Thank you, Rhi, it’s moving to have that reflected back. I just put my emotional reaction down to being a softie but that whisper of lingering grief you heard when reading, I now hear it too. 🫶🏼
Well done, what an awesome achievement! ❤️

I’ve just, a few days ago, let myself get properly into a music production course I’ve bought. And now I’m 100% obsessed! (In a good way!)
Luckily I’m looking after some dogs at the moment so I have to get up at some point and leave the house the house for an hour a day.. otherwise… 😂
It’s great. It’s what I absolutely love to do and I’m enjoying it SO much!
And yes, I’ve been putting this off / not letting myself get into music production for over a decade, so it’s about time!
Thank you for asking, it’s nice to share!!
Thank you for sharing, Holly! I love that. Totally hear you on pups needing walks being a helpful antidote to hyperfocus body rot! 😁💪🏼💖💪🏼
😂👍🏼 They’re the best!! ❤️

What a beautiful thing to do for your soul Kate 🙏 x
Thank you, Hamish. How are you?
Plodding onwards, Kate. Hope you’re well
Would love to see your writing on here one day. In the meantime, I’m enjoying your photo 🫶🏼

Love that, Kirsty! Look forward to hearing about the swim in Lakeland tarn next week. Feel free to post a note and/or pic here! xxx
I love wild swimming, want to do more of that too. 💪🏼💖💪🏼
Sounds like it was quite the journey. And important, even with that slight whisper of potential grief.
